Rooftop is one of the country’s place based housing association, providing a range of homes to rent, part-own and buy for local people in South Worcestershire and North Gloucestershire. The team at Rooftop are passionate about building great homes and have recently introduced “Rooftop Living Homes Standard” this is a minimum standard Rooftop will aim to build our new homes to, ensuring we are able to provide warm, energy efficient and future proof homes.

Where we build

Rooftop provides housing in Worcestershire and North Gloucestershire. We build in areas of need providing affordable housing ensuring that local people can remain in their communities.

We are always looking for new areas where we can provide housing. If you have land or are aware of any land which you believe can be redeveloped to help provide affordable housing please contact us.

Sustainable building

Rooftop is committed to building great homes and communities that are environmentally sustainable and supported by responsible business practices.

We understand the impact that fuel poverty has on our customers, especially for those living in very rural areas where there is limited access to mains gas. Our Asset Management Strategy provides a mix of renewable technology solutions such as Solar Photovoltaic Panels, Ground Source Heat Pumps and Air Source Heat Pumps as well as improved internal and external wall insulation to combat this.

When we build new homes, we have developed and adopted our own ‘Rooftop Living Homes Standard'. As a result we will always aim to achieve EPC A rating on all new houses where possible. We adopt a fabric first approach in our new homes supplemented by renewable technologies including Photo-voltaic (PV) panels and air source heat pumps to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and keep utility bills low for our customers. We also incorporate items such as water butts, recycling bins and composting facilities within the development to encourage our customers to live in a more environmentally friendly manner.

We also recognise the importance of the wider environment and therefore we also seek to enhance the quality of the natural landscape by using native planting, bat and bird boxes and wildflower meadows to increase biodiversity as well as creating a pleasant setting for our new homes.

Solar panel electricity systems, also known as photovoltaics (PV), capture the sun's energy using photovoltaic cells.

These cells don't need direct sunlight to work – they can still generate some electricity on a cloudy day.

The cells convert the sunlight into electricity, which can be used to run household appliances and lighting.

MVHR (Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery) provides fresh filtered air into a building whilst retaining most of the energy that has already been used in heating the building.

A heat recovery ventilation system properly fitted into a house provides a constant supply of fresh filtered air, maintaining the air quality whilst being practically imperceptible.

In domestic heating use, an Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) absorbs heat from outside air and releases it inside the building, supplying hot water-filled radiators, and/or domestic hot water supply.

The same system can often do the reverse in summer, cooling the inside of the house. A ASHP can offer a full central heating solution and domestic hot water up to 80 °C.
