Chinese Cheque

Rob and Sheila Kettley, representing the Community Fund, were invited to the Chinese Resource Centre at St Oswald's Retirement Village in Gloucester on Saturday 24 November for their Christmas lunch.

Whilst they were there, they presented a cheque for £4000 to the centre, courtesy of the Rooftop Community Fund. This money will help to arrange a series of cultural events with young volunteers. These will include Chinese New Year and the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival in May. These events will provide opportunities for the Chinese community in Gloucester to socialise and reminisce.

The money will also cover the cost of the 'Talking recipes' project, which is recording traditional Chinese recipes from older residents usinf photography and producing a cookbook. This project hopes to bring three generations of the Chinese community together.

The Christmas meal, which also included carols sung in Chinese and English, was very well attended and everyone had a fantastic time.

On Sunday 23 December at 6:00pm the Chinese Resource Centre are holding an African night and all are welcome.
