Rooftop is throwing its weight behind the annual Norton Community Games taking place on Sunday 8 June.

Norton Community Games 1

The games are taking place at Worcester Cricket Club, just a stones throw from the former Norton Barracks where Rooftop is building ten new affordable homes for returning servicemen and women, and those who retired from the Armed Forces.

This year’s event begins with a children’s torch relay. In the main arena, sponsored by Rooftop, there is a range of activities throughout the day including; local schools’ athletics competition, Tug of War, Jago Dance Troup (join in the mass ZUMBA session) wellie wanging and much more.

Across the large field there will be a number of other exciting attractions such as; Evesham Sub Aqua dive pool, golf coaching, four massive inflatables, arts and crafts, a circus skills entertainer, football shots in competition, basketball, cricket and at 2pm Worcester Air Rifle shooting and archery try-it session. This year there is also a drumming experience so that everyone can get into the Brazilian mood ready for the World Cup.

Event organiser, Dennis Hodgkins said: “The Norton Community Games provide a wonderful and unique opportunity for people from our communities to come together to celebrate the legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This event offers something for everyone no matter what their ability, skill level or age. With the types of different activities including arts, sports and fun no one needs to miss out this enjoyable day.”

Barry Cooke, Communications Manager at Rooftop Housing Group added: “As we’re building some new homes nearby we thought it would be great to lend our support to the Games and to show our commitment to Norton. I’m sure it will be a great day.”

As well as the frantic activity there are various arts and craft stalls so that people can enjoy creating their own piece of memorabilia. Also the Worcester Owls will have a presence. There are refreshments, ice cream van, tea and cakes, jacket potatoes and a BBQ. The bar is open all day.

The Norton Community Games takes place at Worcester Cricket Club, Brockhill Lane, Norton, Worcester WR5 2PP on Sunday 8 June from 10.30am.

Admission is free as are most of the activities, though some have a small charge. For further information about the event call Norton Community Trust Secretary Dennis Hodgkins 01905 769900 or Trust Chairman Mike Goode 07983 424535.

As well as support from Rooftop, other event sponsors include Speller Metcalfe who are building the new homes on behalf of Rooftop.
