Reconnections helps William to get out and find a new enjoyment of life
This time last year, William, in his 70s, was struggling. Having lost his wife the previous year, William was finding it difficult to get out due to health issues, and felt isolated and unhappy.
After a visit to his GP, William found out about ‘Reconnections’ – a new service from Age UK Herefordshire & Worcestershire which is working with people over 50 to improve wellbeing, build confidence and help people to rediscover activities that they enjoy.
Through Reconnections, William was matched with a volunteer and gradually built up from phone calls to visits as he became more comfortable. As conversations progressed, William identified that he used to enjoy gardening and, with the support of the volunteer, found a local gardening group.
It’s not easy to think about changing your life! And William found the initial step of going along to the group intimidating. With the support of Reconnections however, his confidence increased hugely and now enjoys sharing his gardening passion with others and feels like a new lease of life has opened up to him.
